LISTEN TO WHAT’S ALREADY  THERE

about

As a maker and performer, I explore how to capture ‘the moment’.
By listening, framing, adding, and responding, I use improvisation as a tool to interact with what is already present. My tenor saxophone, the space, and the moment itself act as co-performers. In the now—listening to what’s already there—unexpected sonic worlds can emerge.

Listening as a starting point My work is driven by a fascination with how we listen. I explore how sound and space shape experience, and how the act of listening can evoke a narrative on its own.
My work is both site- and moment-specific. I aim to guide the audience by the ears—to let them hear the musicality of a place, the resonance of materials, and the significance of the temporary.

As a co-founder of Stichting BUI (Bevordering Utrechtse Improvisatie), I initiate and organize musical performances and interdisciplinary collaborations with a collective of young makers. We work from ONDERBUIK, a creative music hub located in a former atomic bunker at Fort Lunet I in Utrecht—also the home of my studio and sonic experiments.

Listening is not always about making sound. Often, it begins with observing—listening, looking, and framing what already exists. This approach also informs my visual practice, including (analogue) photography, bookbinding, and cyanotype workshops.
